The Oklahoma State Cowboys have landed their next quarterback. Maealiuaki Smith, a 2024 quarterback from San Mateo, CA, has committed to Oklahoma State.

The Serra quarterback is the No. 36 quarterback in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports

He's a good addition to an Oklahoma State team that looks promising in the new-look Big 12. With Oklahoma and Texas on their way out of the conference, the top is wide open, and Smith will be able to be a part of an Oklahoma State team looking to fill that void.

Why did Smith pick Oklahoma State in his recruitment process? He credits Oklahoma State's quarterback coach Tim Rattay, which he told 247Sports' McClain Baxley.

"Oklahoma State's small college town community appeals to me and another essential reason that I chose Oklahoma State was because of the relationship I developed with coach [Tim] Rattay," Smith said. "He's passionate about the quarterback position and I believe coach Rattay's experience will definitely help me develop as a college quarterback quickly."

Oklahoma State has a good track record of developing three-star talents and hidden talents. They're a consistently good program, which can be proven by their bowl-game streak.

"I knew Oklahoma State was the place for me after my official visit," said Smith. "...One other factor that impacted my choice was how easy it was for me to get to know the coaches after my visit."

Smith has high praise for the coaches, and this good relationship will help Smith as he eventually makes his way to Stillwater. He's still unsure whether or not he will enroll at Oklahoma State early to begin developing in the system.
