With college football season in the past and the crazy month of the transfer portal having slowed down, the recruiting trail is a point of emphasis across the sport. Oklahoma State has been handing out offers over the week and this weekend, hoping to find their next batch of stars for the next few years.

One 2025 Oklahoma State target included the Cowboys in his top eight choices, as he announced on Twitter on Saturday. Zay Gentry included Oklahoma State, Auburn, TCU, Baylor, SMU, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Nebraska as the teams he will choose his college football team from.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back picked up an Oklahoma State offer on May 31, 2023. The three-star defensive back is the No. 39 in his position in the nation while being the No. 57 player in Texas for the 2025 recruiting class.

It'll be interesting to see how the Cowboys fare in this recruitment battle, especially after Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo finished his first season in Stillwater, showing promise.

Nardo established a 3-3-5 defensive scheme that the Cowboys struggled to operate early in the season, but during the team's mid-season win streak, they showed their potential playing that style.

Defensive backs play a big role in the scheme that Nardo established, and it's allowed players like Kendal Daniels, Korie Black, Trey Rucker and Cameron Epps to have some game-changing plays and moments this past season.

The Cowboys will have quite a bit of competition in the pursuit of Gentry, but they certainly have quite a selling point as a program that's been capable of developing three-star talents into big-time players.
