Oklahoma State Safety to Remain Active Following Arrest, Court Appearance

The Oklahoma State starting safety will remain active despite an arrest and court appearance.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have seen plenty of disappointing things across the season, one of those being Trey Rucker being arrested on suspicion of a DUI just over a week ago.

The Cowboys, however, are going to allow Rucker to be active with the team moving forward, as head coach Mike Gundy announced in his weekly presser.

“You know the same thing I do,” Gundy said. “I’m going to let the system run its course. All I know is what they’ve told me and the information I have.”

This is fair for Gundy to do. Rucker's preliminary hearing isn't until Nov. 6.

“He’s active until the system takes its place and we can make a decision,” Gundy said. “Essentially, I can’t get ahead of the process based on the type of incident that took place. I’ve got to let the system run its course and then make a decision from that point.”

This could have been a huge blow for the Cowboys. Lyrik Rawls remains day-to-day and Oklahoma State already could be short in the secondary. Rawls missed the matchup against Iowa State in Week 4.

The defense is in need of as much help as possible as they host Kansas State on Friday night. The Wildcats average nearly 500 yards per game. Even in their close loss to Missouri, they put up 27 points.

With the Cowboys running a 3-3-5 scheme, there's a lot asked from the secondary, and they're not supposed to allow big plays while providing proper run support.

The Wildcats pick up nearly 200 yards per game on the ground whereas the Cowboys allow nearly 140 yards per game on the ground. The defense will have to support the offense with whatever means necessary. A takeaway or defensive score could go a long way in this one for the Cowboys.
