What does Matrail Lopez bring to the table for the Pokes?

Idabel, OK. prospect Matrail Lopez recently received his third star from 247Sports. Lopez is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound ATH who recently committed to Oklahoma State earlier this month as a wide receiver. Lopez is ranked as the 10th best player in the state of Oklahoma by 247 Sports (#603 nationally), holding offers from Washington State, Tulsa and UTSA.

Lopez shows promising athleticism, and he is able to make plays with the ball in his hands. This past season, he scored at least one touchdown in five different categories. He tallied a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, a pick-six, as well as a punt and kick return touchdown.

Over the course of his junior season, Lopez tallies 41 catches for 814 yards and 10 touchdowns, as well as 484 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He also picked off three passes from his spot in the secondary on defense.

The Idabel product will be a great addition to the receiver room and shows a ton of promise as a slot receiver. He could provide a lot of value as a utility player, and I could see him getting some early reps on special teams as a returner.

This is a massive pickup for the Pokes and a very underrated one at that. They picked up a talented in-state prospect with a chip on his shoulder. I could see Lopez picking up a fourth star later in the cycle, especially if he has a good senior season.

Skill position players have found ways to shine at Oklahoma State, no matter how highly or lowly they were ranked when joining the program. Joining the Cowboys only gives Lopez more potential to shine and show his capabilities at the college football level.
