OSU Football: Cowboys Receive Commitment From Local 2025 ATH

The commitment was the first one from a 2025 recruit to Mike Gundy's staff.

This past weekend, Oklahoma State hosted Matrail Lopez to a recruiting visit. Lopez is an ATH from Idabel, OK. The Cowboys offered Lopez on Jan. 29, which led to a quick visit and eventual commitment from the 2025 athlete.

Lopez committed to the Cowboys on Feb. 4, which was the same weekend he visited Stillwater. The Idabel product posted 484 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns on 37 attempts in the 2023 football season, adding 814 receiving yards and ten receiving touchdowns with 41 receptions on the season.

Defensively, Lopez added 61 tackles, five tackles for loss, six pass breakups and three interceptions on the season -- with one of those interceptions leading to a touchdown.

Again, Lopez is listed as an ATH for a reason, as he scored one punt return touchdown and one kick return touchdown on the season, doing a little bit of everything in all three aspects of the game.

The 5-foot-11 athlete reported offers from Washington State, UTSA, Tulsa and North Texas. He's expected to play slot receiver, according to 247Sports' McClain Baxley, with occasional help in the run game, which makes sense given his high school resume.

The unranked prospect is a testament to the way the Cowboys operate. They identify and offer talent early, which leads to eventual development and building underrated stars in their time in Stillwater.

It makes sense that Oklahoma State's first commitment to the 2025 recruiting class comes from a versatile, local prospect who is going to be a unique addition to the program eventually.
