Cowboy Football Notebook: Pokes Back After Time Off

Oklahoma State is back and preparing for Kansas after some time off

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State is coming off its second bye week of the season, this time off of a 34-27 win over a tough TCU team in Stillwater, and the Pokes are preparing to face a Les Miles led Kansas team.

The Cowboys have opened as 17.5-point favorites over the Jayhawks, and even though they have a 3-6 record, they nearly upset Texas (loss 50-48 in Austin, and beat Texas Tech 37-34 in Lawrence.

“With Kansas, they've done very well offensively in the last few weeks," said head coach Mike Gundy. "They're making some adjustments and getting good quarterback play. They've got fantastic running back play. They've got tall, rangy receivers who can really run. They're moving the ball and scoring some points. Defensively, they're getting a little better each week. So, we've got a lot of work ahead of us but we're looking forward to this week's game plan and to an early morning kickoff on Saturday."

This will be a fun, yet very meaningful game as Oklahoma State announced last night they will wear special uniforms honoring the United States Military.

My grandfather flew, and then was a flight instructor for the Air Force for over 30 years, so I'm especially excited that Oklahoma State has decided to do this.

“Nike gave us the choice to be one of the schools to represent Folds of Honor and our military, which certainly is a no-brainer for me," said coach Gundy. "You guys know how I feel about people who are willing to put their life on the line and fight on a daily basis for the freedom in this country. I think it's pretty cool for us to represent them and show them our support. Doesn't make a difference to me if you come from the city or the country, if you're white or black, Democratic or Republican; I think everybody has an obligation to support the people who are willing to fight for our freedom every day. I'm a big proponent and strong supporter of our military. It's an honor for us to be able to wear these uniforms, represent the organizations and the people who are willing to do whatever it takes for the greatest country on earth. We're excited about that.”

Oklahoma State also has a new Director of Recruiting, Todd Bradford. Bradford first joined Mike Gundy's staff in 2005 as the linebackers coach, and served in the role for three seasons. He then joined Southern Miss as the Defensive Coordinator from 2008-10. He's also served on staff at Maryland and at Kansas.

“Also, we hired Todd Bradford as the director of recruiting," said coach Gundy. "He's on the job as of today. Todd had been here before and left here when Larry Fedora left to be the defensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi. He bounced around a few places; he was out one year with some private business. We brought him back in recruiting and he's on board with us.”
