The Oklahoma State recruiting staff is showing their great work on the defensive side of the ball in this cycle once again this evening.

Lyrik Rawls, a well recruited 6-1 180-pound safety from Marshall, TX, featured the Cowboys in his final five list. Earlier this week, Rawls was listed in the brand new Sport Illustrated All-American database as an SI All-American candidate.

Included in the list with the Pokes is Texas Tech, Kansas, TCU, and Houston.

Luckily, Oklahoma State was one of the last visits Rawls took before the COVID-19 global pandemic brought recruiting visits to a halt. To this point, it is unclear when visits will be able to be resumed, so the Cowboys impressing Rawls in person is a huge bonus.

Sports Illustrated All American says the bottom line on Rawls is that he “Has the length, sudden speed and awareness that defenses covet in free safety prospects. Could potentially play offense, where he shows promise as route runner. Ceiling is highest at free safety, where he has potential as a multi-year starter.”

At one point, Rawls had an official visit scheduled for the Cowboys on April 17th for the weekend of the spring game but will now most likely come during the season if he does not make a decision before then.

There is only one safety currently committed in the 2021 cycle for the Cowboys and I expect one more at minimum with a possible third. Lyric Rawls is my pick to fill that spot in this class.
