Former Pitt Standouts Jaylen Twyman, Jason Pinnock Cut from NFL Rosters

Former Pitt Panthers Jaylen Twyman and Jason Pinnock were cut by the Vikings and Jets, respectively.

PITTSBURGH -- The final day of preseason roster cuts brought bad news for a pair of former Pitt Panthers. Defensive back Jason Pinnock and defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman both learned that they would be released by their respective teams, according to reports from around the league.

Twyman, a former sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, had just finished his first full training camp as a professional. He spent a year on the non-Covid injured reserve list after sustaining gunshot wounds less than two months after he was drafted. Reports from Vikings OTAs and rookie minicamp this year  indicated that Twyman was having a good preseason.

Pinnock's release was a surprise. In his first full season with the New York Jets, he appeared in 12 games and started two. He recorded 16 total tackles, forced a pair of fumbles and defended one pass. He was in the middle of a transition to safety.
