Former Pitt DB Headed to Shrine Bowl

Former Pitt Panthers defensive back A.J. Woods will participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

PITTSBURGH -- Another former member of the Pitt Panthers has made his way down to Texas to compete in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

A.J. Woods, who was a staple in Pitt's cornerback room and logged 10 starts at the position over his final two seasons with the program, is set to participate in the showcase, where he will have a chance to impress NFL teams as part of the pre-draft process. He will participate alongside former Panther teammates Bub Means, Matt Goncalves and M.J. Devonshire on the West Roster.

Woods began his career as a special teams ace before working his way into a substantial role on defense during his sophomore campaign. One of his crowning moments as a Panther was a 73-yard interception return against Wake Forest in 2021 that stands as an ACC Championship Game record.

Woods spent five seasons at Pitt and appeared in 59 games, starting 14 of them. He amassed a total of 102 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 interceptions and 25 passes defended during that time.
