Pitt Given Poor Odds to Win ACC Championship

The Pitt Panthers are far from favored to win the 2024 ACC title.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are not getting much credit from oddsmakers as they get set to begin 2024 spring practices.

Early 2024 ACC Championship odds have been released by BetOnline.ag and they have the Panthers pegged with the third-worst odds to win the league this coming season at 125/1, tied with Virginia. Only Wake Forest and Stanford have worse odds of taking home this year's ACC title.

Clemson and Florida State lead the pack at 5/2, followed by Miami at 5/1. Louisville (11/2), NC State (9/1), Virginia Tech (12/1), North Carolina and SMU (both 22/1), Cal and Syracuse (both 50/1), Boston College (75/1), Duke and Georgia Tech (both 100/1) all proceed Pitt in that order.

The Panthers won their first outright conference title in 2021 with an 8-1 record in ACC play and clinched the milestone with a 45-21 victory over Wake Forest in the championship game. They came up one win over North Carolina short of making it back to the title game in 2022 before falling into a 3-9 hole during the 2023 campaign.

There's optimism they will be able to turn things around with new offensive coordinator Kade Bell in town to revamp a sluggish, low-scoring offense from last season. They return starting quarterback Nate Yarnell, three starting wide receivers, their leading rusher and four offensive linemen with multiple games of starting experience.

But Pitt will have to account for the loss of their leading receiver, top three corners, a starting linebacker, top defensive tackle and five position coaches if they want to improve and contend for the league title in 2024.
