Pitt Preparing for West Virginia With Country Roads on Repeat

The Pitt Panthers are ready for an old-school showdown.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers will host the first Backyard Brawl matchup since 2011 when they face the West Virginia Mountaineers. The old-school rivalry has a highly-anticipated battle set at Acrisure Stadium, and to prepare for it, the Panthers are bringing back some traditions at practice.

Quarterback Kedon Slovis, who was named the starter for the opener, said the team has certain songs playing on repeat in the weight room. When asked if 'Country Roads' was one of them, he laughed and replied "maybe."

"It's been a while since we've played them. We've had some friendly reminders," Slovis said. "Tough days in the weight room, we'll play some songs and some older guys will come say their piece. So yeah, we've had some good education."

Pitt walks into the matchup ranked 17th in the AP poll. West Virginia is not ranked. But when these two east coast rivals meet on the North Shore, nothing matters but a long-standing showdown.
