Steelers Spent No Extra Time on Pitt QB Kenny Pickett

The Pittsburgh Steelers are only a walk away from Pitt practice.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Pittsburgh Steelers don't need to travel far to evaluate Pitt players heading to the NFL Draft, but according to general manager Kevin Colbert, they didn't spend extra time on Kenny Pickett.

Colbert spoke during the 2022 NFL Combine and said despite playing in the same stadium, the Steelers didn't spend more time evaluating Pickett than any other quarterback in the class.

"Honestly, we never see those players more than because we have scouts all around the country," Colbert said. "We never take for granted that we know that player better than we know a player in the west. We try to treat them all equally to not prejudice our evaluation. Sometimes it's a little harder because people expect us to know more about the Pitt players than maybe players at USC, but honestly, we don't."

Colbert has been at a number of Pickett's games during his time at Pitt, but the GM held strong that there's an equal evaluation. If the Steelers have an opportunity to select Pickett, however, chances are they fully understand who they're getting at quarterback.
