South Carolina In Pursuit Of Transfer Pitcher Dominic Niman
With college baseball's offseason commencing the Gamecocks coaching staff has been active, seeking to improve the roster from the transfer portal. With pitchers like Noah Hall, Will Sanders, Jack Mahoney, and James Hicks all likely moving onto the professional ranks, plus Eli Jerzembeck likely missing a chunk of time next season due to injury, veteran transfer pitchers are at the top of Mark Kingston and Matt Williams' wish lists.
One pitcher that's emerged as a viable target is Dominic Niman out of Central Connecticut State, one of the biggest names coming out of the portal. The left-handed pitcher was awarded the Northeast Conference Pitcher Of the Year this past Spring, and was named a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
Niman, the Blue Devils left handed ace, went 12-2 this past season, setting a program record for victories in a season, and placing him second in the country in wins. Attaining a 2.77 ERA is an obvious reason for Gamecock fans to be bitting their nails hoping Niman could dawn garnet and black threads this next season, but his work horse mentality should not be ignored. Niman pitched 104 innings and two complete games in 15 starts, averaging almost seven innings per outing, something rarely seen in today's game.
Two of his most memorable performances of this past season came in the NEC conference tournament, where he fanned fourteen batters in seven innings of work, and pitched a complete game in the championship on two days of rest. Therefore, the 6-foot-3 left hander would play a pivotal part in the Gamecocks preparations to start the road back to the NCAA tournament, but this time seeking to go beyond the Super Regional round.
