South Carolina Basketball Season Opener Announced

South Carolina Basketball will start the 2023-2024 season at home against an in-state program.

Though it may seem like college basketball just ended, teams across the country are already gearing up for the next season. South Carolina finally has a date to mark on its calendar, as the season opener for the team has been announced. South Carolina will start its season at home against USC Upstate on November 6th.

The Gamecocks have faced off against USC Upstate each of the last two seasons, taking both games against the Spartans, including a 68-53 victory this past season. The Gamecocks have also won their previous two season openers, one of those coming against USC Upstate.

South Carolina will come into this season with a new look, boasting four new transfers, each expected to contribute in the rotation. With the influx of new talent on the team, this upcoming season offers a lot of hope for the Gamecocks, who look to turn things around after a disappointing season.

If the Gamecocks don't see a perceivable jump in performance this coming season, pressure could begin to mount for Head Coach Lamont Paris, who is heading into his second season with the program. Though Paris is still trying to get his bearings in Columbia and imprint his vision on the team, college sports, as we all know, are a quick and unforgiving business.
