FINAL: Gamecock MBB Defeats Winthrop 72-62

The South Carolina men's basketball team secured their 10th victory against the in-state, Winthrop.

The Gamecocks faced off against the in-state Winthrop Golden Eagles on the night of December 19th, clinching the victory and boosting their season record to an impressive 10-1 under the guidance of second-year coach Lamont Paris.

In the initial quarter, the Gamecocks handled business scoring 33 points, while Winthrop trailed behind with 28 points. The standout performer in the first half was Gamecock PG Meechie Johnson, contributing 10 points, and 2 assists.

As the game progressed into the second half, the Gamecocks maintained their momentum, establishing a 8-point lead. CG Meechie Johnson continued to shine, adding the night with  18 points. This outstanding performance played a pivotal role in securing the Gamecocks' 10th win of the season, with just two more nonconference games remaining before South Carolina embarks on conference play against Mississippi State.

Besides Johnson, other noteworthy contributors for the Gamecocks included F Myles Stute, who added 10 points, G Ta’lon Cooper with 13 points, and F B.J. Mack, who chipped in with 8 points. Together, this cohesive team effort showcased the Gamecocks' strength and depth on the court.
