One of the positions the South Carolina Gamecocks desperately needed to replenish in terms of depth heading into the offseason was the interior defensive line. While high school or transfer portal recruiting can help staffs in that regard, one other classification that has been forgotten since the installment of the transfer portal has been the junior college ranks.

Shane Beamer and his coaches had some success in the JUCO ranks this past recruiting cycle when they landed a four-star defensive lineman and Palmetto State native in Elijah Davis. Well, they've done it once again, as defensive tackle Jerome Simmons announced his commitment to the Gamecocks on Monday morning.

Simmons is rated as a four-star prospect and the sixth best junior college prospect in the entire country by 247Sports. In 17 games with Highland Community College, Jerome racked up 50 total tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He's the first interior defensive line prospect to commit to the Gamecocks for the 2024 cycle.
