Former Stanford standout and current Utah Valley head coach, Mark Madsen, has been offered the head coaching job at Cal, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report.

He is widely viewed as the favorite to land the job according to Jon Rothstein, and he continues to impress, winning 48 games in two years. The 47-year old head coach  has led his team to a 28-8 record this season and recently advanced to the semifinals of the NIT, where they will face UAB on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

There has been a steady increase in wins each season Madsen has been at the helm, as they went 11-19 in his first season, 11-11 in his second, 20-12 in his third and 28-8 this season.

Madsen was someone who many fans and experts around the sport thought Stanford would tab as their next coach if they moved on from Jerod Haase after he and the team missed the tournament for the seventh straight season.

Assuming Madsen takes the Cal job, that means that there will be a Cal quarterback coaching at Stanford, a former Cal hooper coaching at Stanford, and now a former Stanford hooper coaching at Cal.
