Syracuse Knocks off Boston College at Home

Syracuse jumped out to an early 10 point lead and controlled the game the rest of the way as they knocked off Boston College 75-67 inside the Carrier Dome Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Orange improves to 12-6 (6-5) on the season and sweeps the season series against the Eagles. Boston College drops to 3-13 (1-9).
Joe Girard came out on fire and scored all 16 of his points in the first half. Those 16 led all scorers. Girard added six rebounds, three assists and three steals as he was the best player on the floor in the first half.
Boston College would not go away despite the early double digit deficit. The Eagles trimmed the lead to six on a few occasions and got it down to five once. Steffon Mitchell and Rich Kelly led Boston College's efforts with 12 and 14 points, respectively. They made six combined three pointers as well.
Syracuse held off the Eagles threats with timely buckets, solid defense and controlling the boards. The zone held Boston College to just 36.5% shooting overall and 29% from beyond the arc. Syracuse outrebounded the Eagles 37-33 and outscored Boston College 38-20 in the paint.
Five Orange players scored in double figures. In addition to Girard, Alan Griffin had 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Quincy Guerrier scored 12 points to go along with nine rebounds, three steals and four blocks. Marek Dolezaj put in 13 points with four rebounds and three assists. Buddy Boeheim finished with 13 points and three assists.
Syracuse attempted only 11 three pointers in the game as they took their efforts inside for this. The Orange shot 48% from the floor as a result.
Syracuse is next in action at Louisville on Wednesday.
