In a back and forth game, missed free throws from Syracuse and key shot making from Virginia cost the Orange a win against the seventh ranked Cavaliers. Virginia knocked off Syracuse 67-62 in the JMA Wireless Dome Monday night. With the loss, the Orange drops to 13-10 (6-6) and has now lost four times in the last five games. Next up is a road matchup at Boston College on Saturday.

Syracuse had the ball down by two in the final minute and a half, but Jesse Edwards was called for a charge on the potential tying possession and Jayden Gardner hit a big bucket with 30 seconds to go to seal the victory.

Free throws were an issue for Syracuse, which made just 11 of 18 attempts. The Orange shot 50% from the floor but was just 3-15 from beyond the arc. Joe Girard struggled shooting the ball going just 3-12 from the floor. Judah Mintz led Syracuse with 20 points, four rebounds and two steals. Edwards added 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

The game started out slow for Syracuse, which did not have Benny Williams available, falling behind by 10-2 in the opening minutes. Syracuse battled back and the lead was just one at halftime. The Cavs pushed the lead to as many as seven in the second half, but Syracuse stormed back behind a 12-0 to take a five point lead with 12 minutes left.

The Orange led until the six minute mark when back to back threes from Armaan Franklin gave the Cavs a three point lead. A lead Virginia would not give back. Gardner would lead Virginia with 17 points and eight rebounds. Kihei Clark added 12 points and 10 assists.
