Series History: Syracuse leads the all-time series with Vermont 2-0. That includes last season when the Orange won a 7-5 defensive battle in the Dome. The first meeting took place in 2021, also in the Dome, with Syracuse coming away with a 17-13 triumph.
Syracuse Coming In: The Orange is entering year three of the Gary Gait era and expectations are high. After boasting one of the best offenses in the country last season but also one of the worst defenses, the expectation is that the offense maintains while the defense drastically improves. Transfers such as Jake Stevens from Princeton, Sam English from Princeton, Nick Fraterrigo from LeMoyne, Steven Schmitt from Mount Saint Mary's, Greg Elijah-Brown from OCC, Matt Wright from North Carolina, Zack Puckhaber from Gettysburg and Mason Kohn from Tufts are expected to bolster the roster.
Vermont Coming In: Vermont went 9-5 during the 2023 season. The Catamounts were picked second in the America East preseason poll. Fourteen players from last season's squad have graduated, but Vermont still brings back four all-conference and two all rookie team selections. Vermont is typically a physical, defensive oriented team. They finished 10th in the country in defense last season.
