Syracuse Cruises Past Louisville to Improve to 11-0

The Orange women's lacrosse team remained undefeated in blowout over the Cardinals.

The #1 ranked Syracuse Orange rolled into Kentucky and took care of business against Louisville, disposing of the Cardinals 17-5. This is the fifth ACC game for the Orange and the third ACC team they have beaten by double digits.

The Orange set the tone early, scoring six straight goals in eight minutes against the Cardinals’ defense. Once the lead was established the team rolled to victory, never allowing the Cardinals to score two straight until the final goals of the game.

Emma Tyrell led the way for the Orange, scoring four goals in two straight games to reach 28 on the season. Meaghan Tyrell recorded five assists as the facilitator and scored two goals in the match. Both of these numbers pushed Tyrell into third all time in goals scored (228) and second in assists (138) in program history.

The draw controls were shared by Olivia Adamson and Kate Goodale, who combined for 11 of Syracuse’s 15 wins at the circle. Goodale and Sierra Cockerille also performed on the defensive end, winning three ground balls each. Maddy Baxter recorded two caused turnovers to lead the team, and also had her fourth multi-goal game of the year.

The fourth quarter lead allowed some of the younger players to come out and score their first goals of the season, including Sophomores Caroline Rehder and Shira Parower. The team was ecstatic to see the second-year attackers get on the scoresheet and perform on the ACC stage.

Louisville’s defense was shaken in the first half but did win the turnover battle, causing more turnovers and committing fewer themselves. Four of the five total goals from the Cardinals were free position goals, a testament to the Syracuse defense to not allow more than one in-play goal all afternoon.

Syracuse improves to 11-0 and remains #1 in the nation, preparing to face 6-3 Cornell on March 28. Louisville falls to 4-6 and 1-4 in the ACC, getting ready to travel to Columbus to face Ohio State on Tuesday.
