Class of 2025 QB Deante Ruffin Enjoys Syracuse Junior Day Visit

In this story:
Syracuse football hosted Junior Day last weekend. One of the notable names on campus was 2025 Camden (NJ) High quarterback Deante Ruffin.
"Amazing visit," Ruffin said. "Great place and great people. Got to tour the complex, take pictures, meet with position coaches and just understand more about what Cuse has to offer. My favorite part was listening to coach Babers speak to us and meeting with coach Beck to talk offense. I enjoyed that because the coaches make you feel at home all the while getting their point across. Coach Babers is super intense."
The meeting with quarterbacks coach Jason Beck was a big highlight of the visit.
"Meeting with coach Beck went great," Ruffin said. "We went over some film from the bowl game and I realized the style of offense seems to be a fit for me. He kept us engaged by asking questions about the correct reads in certain situations. The spread type of offense with a QB running element is a perfect fit for me."
In addition, the message from head coach Dino Babers was impactful.
"Babers talked to just the QBs and said to not come to Syracuse if you're not ready to be the guy," Ruffin said. "This hit hard as I think it's important that guys that play football don't just play for the jersey. I think if everyone on the roster hasn't bought in and ready to be the guy than you already lost the battle. I learned that in order to be ready to come to Cuse you need to be ready to be that guy."
Overall, Syracuse left an impression on the Camden High standout.
"Definitely increased it a bunch as I got to see the academic side of the school and their 93% graduation rate," Ruffin said. "Which is insane as education is most important."
