David McMorris Decommits From Syracuse

The Orange loses a three star recruit from Washington DC.

Class of 2024 Washington (DC) Gonzaga edge David McMorris has decommitted from Syracuse football. The 6-2, 255 pounder announced the decision on social media. The decommitment comes in the wake of a coaching change with the Orange, who moved on from Dino Babers in the late stages of the 2023 season before hiring Fran Brown as his replacement.

McMorris committed to Syracuse back in June following an official visit. He chose the Orange over offers from Boston College, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and several others.

According to Max Preps, McMorris had 42 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in nine games during his junior season. McMorris is rated a three star prospect by 247Sports, ESPN, On3 and Rivals. He is ranked as a top 100 player at his position and top five best player in Washington (D.C.).

The early National Signing Day is on December 20th. Recruits do not have to sign early, however, and can elect to take official visits in January while signing on the traditional signing day which is on February 7, 2024. Syracuse finished the 2023 season 6-6 to reach bowl eligibility for the second straight season. It is the first time the Orange will be in back to back bowl games since the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
