Donnie Freeman's Strong Second Half Helps Team Takeover Win Peach Jam Championship

The Syracuse basketball commit was superb in a win over Vegas Elite.

Team Takeover is your 2023 EYBL Peach Jam champions after knocking off Vegas Elite 76-61. Takeover rallied from a one point halftime deficit to dominate the second half and win the title. Syracuse commit Donnie Freeman was instrumental in Takeover's second half performance.

After halftime, Freeman scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds while shooting 4-7 from the floor and 1-1 from three point range. He did not start and was just 1-3 in limited action in the first half. Freeman showed why he is such a highly regarded prospect after halftime, scoring from all three levels.

Freeman has been stellar throughout the EYBL season, including at Peach Jam, which began on July 3rd. Freeman has led Team Takeover to a 7-0 record during Peach Jam while advancing to the finals. Entering the championship game, Freeman was averaging 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 46% from the floor and 33% from three point range.

The 6-9 forward is considered one of the power power forwards in the 2024 recruiting class. He is ranked as high as 29th by On3 and as low as 42nd by Rivals. Freeman is a consensus four star prospect.

"The visit was pretty straightforward," Freeman said after his official visit. "They got straight to the point. Down there, it was strictly about business. Having good conversations, honest conversations. That's really what meant the most to me was how straightforward it was. Syracuse was really blatant about what they wanted to do with me in that class and I really liked that."
