Ibn McDaniels Commits to Syracuse

The Orange has landed a talented diamond in the rough from New Jersey.

Syracuse football has landed a commitment from Elizabeth (NJ) High defensive back Ibn McDaniels during his official visit this weekend, he announced on social media. McDaniels is listed at 6-3, 190 pounds, can play any position in the secondary and has also played wide receiver in high school. He is expected to start at cornerback for the Orange.

McDaniels is an under the radar recruit but when you watch his film it is hard to see why. He is a long, smooth athlete who can run and has great instincts. He looks every bit the part of a power five caliber recruit. During his senior season, McDaniels recorded 34 tackles, three interceptions including one pick six, 744 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He was named to the NJFCA North 2 Super 100 All-State Team and was named First Team All-Conference.

Interestingly, McDaniels was on the radar of the previous staff thanks to Director of High School Relations Dennis Thomas. When Fran Brown took over as head coach, the staff evaluated McDaniels and extended an offer. Now he the latest member of SU's 2024 class. .

McDaniels says he has been in touch with multiple members of the new staff, including head coach Fran Brown, over the last month. In the Orange's 2024 class to date, Syracuse has three other defensive backs including Marcellus Barnes, Braheem Long and TaRon Haile.
