Jakobie Seabourn Commits to Syracuse

The 2023 JUCO safety has picked the Orange.

Class of 2023 junior college defensive back Jakobie Seabourn has committed to Syracuse following an official visit. Seabourn, who played at Santa Barbara City College the last two seasons, has three years to play two and will join the Orange for the upcoming season. He was also being recruited by LSU, Oregon State, Utah State and South Florida. He is listed at 6-1, 190 pounds on the SBCC website and had 39 tackles with one interception last season. Seabourn originally played Cypress Ranch in Texas in high school.

"The coaches, players and everyone I met were great people and very genuine," Seabourn said. "The city had a great vibe and I was able to picture myself being here. My family also really enjoyed it and it just felt right."

Once he made the decision that Syracuse was home, he informed the coaches.

"Everyone was very excited," Seabourn said. "They couldn't stop smiling and neither could I."

During the offseason, Syracuse lost a starting safety and starting cornerback through the transfer portal. They also brought in a transfer corner and safety but wanted like to add more experienced depth that can compete for a starting spot. Seabourn fits that bill.

Prior to the visit, Seabourn said he had been in contact with the defensive coaches and special teams coordinator for the last two weeks or so. Their message to him is simple.

"They need to bulk up in their secondary and they see me coming in and competing for a spot," Seabourn said.

Despite turnover, the Orange secondary is now expected to be deep and versatile. With the improvement of young talent, returning veterans and incoming players, Syracuse should, once again, have one of the better secondaries in the ACC.

Syracuse finished the 2022 season 7-6 and are looking to make it two straight seasons with a postseason appearance in 2023.
