Ja'Meer Thomas Reacts to Syracuse Offer

The class of 2024 athlete discusses opportunity from the Orange.

Over the summer, Syracuse held a seven on seven camp. One of the teams that participated features players from the Buffalo (NY) area, which included class of 2024 athlete Ja'Meer Thomas out of Bennett High. Thomas was one of the fastest, quickest and most elusive players at the event. Syracuse kept tabs on the 5-10, 170 speedster, and extended an offer after watching tape from the first few games of his senior season. He was offered as a wide receiver.

"I got called down to the office," Thomas said. "My principal and coach told me the great news."

After receiving his first power five offer from the big in-state school, Thomas said he felt both excited and relieved.

"Because I love Syracuse a lot," Thomas said. "I had a great time down there. I love the environment."

After picking up the offer, Thomas admitted that committing crossed his mind. However, he wants to be smart about such an important decision and not make an emotional one. Still, Syracuse has positioned itself well to this point in his recruitment.

"Top one," Thomas said.

Thomas plays for the same high school that current Orange freshman defensive lineman Rashard Perry played for last year. He reports to run a 40 in the 4.4s, and that speed was on full display over the summer as well as so far this season.

As a junior, Thomas was second on the team with 722 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He led the team with 37 receptions for 813 yards (22 yards per reception) and 10 more touchdowns.

The next step for both sides is to set up an official visit. One that will likely occur after the season, perhaps in December prior to the early signing period which begins on December 20th.
