Jaylin Hicks Recaps Syracuse Visit

In this story:
Class of 2024 New Rochelle (NY) defensive lineman Jaylin Hicks was offered by Syracuse in late January. On Friday, he spent time on the Orange campus getting a closer look at the program.
"It was great," Hicks said. "Had a really good time. Learned some of how coach Achuff likes his players to play and where he sets them up on the line to be successful. Love the campus and the area as well."
Spending time with defensive line coach Chris Achuff was among the highlights of the visit.
"I'm glad we got to talk and pick each other's brain on how we approach going against an offense," Hicks said. "He clearly knows how to coach due to the fact he is straight to the point and wants his boys very precise and technical with every movement. He likes his players low, tight yet elusive hand movement. He likes them to play trick and to always have a play. A counter/backup plan for getting around o-linemen."
Hicks was also impressed by Syracuse's campus and facilities.
"Campus isn't too big but it still feels spacious, which is a huge plus," Hicks said. "Facilities are great. What stood out the most was the Dome. Absolutely huge."
Hicks has upcoming visits to Minnesota (April 11-12) and Boston College (April 13). After visiting the Orange, the 6-3, 250 pounder holds SU in high regard.
"Definitely still one of my top schools," Hicks said.
In addition to Syracuse, Hicks holds offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Minnesota, Penn State, Temple and Wake Forest.

EXPERIENCE Mike McAllister has been covering Syracuse basketball, football and recruiting for more than a decade. Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans. After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years. Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports. Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
