Syracuse football picked up commitments from Travon and Trashon Dye out of Passaic County Tech in New Jersey on Saturday. What do the pledges mean for the Orange? There are two key areas that give us insight into the new staff.
NEW JERSEY
Syracuse had started to really focus on the Garden State in recruiting during the 2023 cycle. Despite the departures of Nick Monroe and Khalil Ahmad, Syracuse has signaled that New Jersey will still be a key state moving forward. The hiring of Nunzio Campanile was done, in part, due to his connections in the state to further those efforts. Now the Orange has tangible results of that hiring. Syracuse will still be active in New Jersey with the staff changeover and continue to recruit the state hard using Campanile's connections and notoriety. Players such as Micah Ford, Ta'Ron Haile, Kenyon Massey, Jaylan Hornsby, Bobby Mays, Ryan Ward, Nyier Daniels, Tyler Burnham, Juan Minaya, Willy Love, Jaylen McClain, Kaj Sanders, Cam Richardson and several others remain targets. More will continue to emerge. It is a positive that Syracuse elected to add members to the staff with New Jersey recruiting connections and continue its efforts in the state despite staff turnover.
EVALUATION
The Dye twins were offered in the spring of 2022 by the previous staff. While the head coach and some position coaches remain, there has been significant turnover. Including offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator. The fact that the new coordinators had the same evaluation as the previous furthers the strength of that evaluation. Syracuse may be the Dye twins only power five offer to date, but they were on the radar of several and have the potential to blow up during camp season. The previous staff has proven it is good at early talent evaluation. The new staff may have that same prowess, though much remains to be seen in that area. Accepting the commitment of the Dye twins, who were offered by the previous staff, suggests there will be some consistency in that area.
OVERALL
Early commitments are partially based on projection. Especially those without other power five offers. Syracuse believes the Dye twins are much better than their current offer list or recruiting rankings. We will see if it plays out that way. This commitment, though, should tell Orange fans that there is continuity despite staff turnover in both evaluation and regional recruiting.

EXPERIENCE Mike McAllister has been covering Syracuse basketball, football and recruiting for more than a decade. Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans. After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years. Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports. Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
