Shaun Ayers 'Loved Everything About' Syracuse Visit

The Orange hosted a talented defensive linemen for a visit recently.

Class of 2024 defensive lineman Shaun Ayers may only have one offer to date (from Central Florida), but the 6-4, 270 pounder is on the radar of several power five programs. He has visited Penn State, Tennessee, Boston College, Rutgers, Florida State and South Carolina. This past weekend he added Syracuse to that list.

"It was awesome," Ayers said. "I loved everything about it. I can't wait to get back down for the spring game. While on campus we got to start off by watching practice, then got a tour of the school and saw all the facilities. After that we went inside to position meetings, then did a photo shoot and talked to some coaches again. My favorite part of the visit was definitely the position meeting with coach Achuff, getting to look at the scheme they run and the assignments the defensive line has. It's just a great way to see if I fit into the school's scheme and I feel like I do."

Ayers learned a lot from his meeting with defensive line coach Chris Achuff.

"The meeting was great," Ayers said. "Going over the fronts and stunts they run and gap responsibility. What stood out to me was that he utilizes his players. His DT can play DE and vice versa. That means a lot to me because knowing I can play both as I do now in high school is a major plus."

The tour of the campus and facilities was also memorable.

"For such a big school, everything is so close together on campus, which is awesome," Ayers said. "I love how the class sizes are small and things like that. The facilities are awesome. They are doing a lot of upgrades and definitely fell in love with the program."

While Ayers currently stars for St. Thomas More in Connecticut, he is originally from downstate New York. Being able to potentially represent his home state is impactful.

"It's already a plus that it's a home state school," Ayers said. "Syracuse is definitely a top school for me. As soon as I stepped foot on campus, I was welcomed like I was part of the family. That's what I love about this place. It's nothing but love everywhere and to put on for New York in New York is an awesome thing to do."
