Syracuse Men's Soccer Tops Albany: Three Stars of the Game

The top ranked Orange remains undefeated.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Orange men’s soccer team pulled off a 1-0 victory over the Albany Great Danes Monday night to move to 3-0-1 on the season. Here are the stars of the game.

  1. Gabriel Mikina. Mikina became the star tonight when he scored the one and only goal of the contest in the 51st minute on a header off of the third of three straight corner kicks. Mikina took us through his thought process leading up to the goal. “The first corner right before just went over my head I think someone clipped it over and then we won another corner and told Mateo (Leveque) and Jeo (Jeorgio Kocevski) just do the exact same thing and we did and it worked out.”

  2. The Syracuse strength and conditioning team. It was a hot and humid Memorial Day night at SU Soccer Stadium. Lorenzo Boselli credited Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning coach Corey Parker (in his seventh year holding that title for the Orange) as well as his teammates offseason work with the teams great conditioning, even in tough conditions. “We have (an) amazing strength and conditioning coach Corey… I think it’s important that people do work in the summer, cuz obviously if you don’t do work in the summer, it kinda takes away everything you’ve done in the spring” said Boselli, “You gotta give credit to the players, and obviously the coaching staff.”

  3. The Syracuse back line. Mikina told us how big the back line was for the Orange tonight. “The whole back line, kudos to them.” Said Mikina, “Kept another clean sheet which is I think the most important thing… in tough conditions, we got the job done.”

Looking ahead: Syracuse takes on #12 Louisville at SU Soccer Stadium at 8 Eastern Time Friday in what is likely the biggest game of the season to this point for either team.
