Syracuse Softball Schedule Review

A look at the Orange's schedule for the 2024 season.

Syracuse softball is coming off a 24-26-1 record last season where they won seven ACC conference games and finished their season advancing to the ACC Quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.

The Orange will go on the road for the first six weekends with the first three being against out of conference opponents, with even a bit of Power Five competition in week two against Maryland in the Big Ten at the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic, who they’ll face twice while there.

The start of March is when Syracuse will open their ACC play at Duke University, where they’ll get a chance to get familiar with the environment that they will be playing in for the ACC tournament that Duke will host in Durham, North Carolina. The Blue Devils made it to the ACC tournament finals and the NCAA Super Regional last season and will be a strong early test for the Orange.

It won’t be until the last weekend in March that Syracuse will host their first home series of the season against an in conference rival, Georgia Tech. From there competition will only heat up as Syracuse has what I believe is the BEST home conference schedule in the country. The reason why is they’ll have the opportunity to host three programs who finished in the top #25 programs in the country last season and are projected to start this season in the same boat.

The three teams will be Clemson who made it to the NCAA Super Regionals last season and are returning the reigning USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and arguably the best active two way player in college softball, Valerie Cagle. After them it’s Virgina Tech who made it to the NCAA Regionals last season and then capping off the last weekend of ACC play they’ll face last year’s runner up National Champions, Florida State.

This schedule will be a challenge but you have to look at it as a postive to be able to have home field advantage against some of the top progams not only in the ACC but in the country. Syracuse will have every opportunity to catch a win against any of these programs that would lead to national level recongition.
