Benne Anderson Becomes First True Freshman to Run Sub Four Minutes Mile in Syracuse History

Anderson made Orange track and field history over the weekend.

Syracuse track and field had a memorable weekend with meets in Clemson and Boston. The Orange set two school records and saw its first true freshman run a sub four minute mile.

That freshman was Benne Anderson who won his heat by running a 3:58.78 mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston. Anderson was the ninth Syracuse athlete to accomplish the feat regardless of class.

At the same event in Boston, Perry Mackinnon ran a 13:34.49 indoor 5k to set a school record. That broke the record of Colin Bennie's (13:38.81), set in 2016.

Trei Thorogood set a school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.86 seconds at the Tiger Paw Invite. According to Syracuse Athletics, only 24 men in the nation have posted a faster time than 20.86. The school record he broke was his own.

Seven other Syracuse athletes set personal records. The Orange closes out the regular season at Cornell this weekend before heading to the ACC Championships.
