Will Texas A&M's Power Surge Outshine Longhorns?

Will Texas A&M's power surge outshine the Texas Longhorns in Tuesday's matchup?

The Texas A&M Aggies baseball team is off to an impressive start in 2024, boasting a perfect 11-0 record for the first time since 2015. Dominating performances, including recent victories at Globe Life Field over Arizona State and USC, besting the Sun Devils 4-0 and later 10-5 and the Trojans 9-3.

Next up, the Aggies face the 15th-ranked Texas Longhorns, a familiar opponent on their schedule.

While the Aggies have been dominant this season, the Longhorns are the midst of a three-game skid following their recent appearance at the Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park.

After sweeping Cal Poly without allowing a run, the Horns dropped a game to No. 3 LSU, which is understandable given LSU's strong standing. However, losing late to Texas State and then falling to No. 9 Vanderbilt in a high-scoring 14-11 loss doesn't give them any momentum heading into Tuesday's game against the Aggies.

Texas A&M will give the Horns a run with their impressive lineup of power hitters who have been instrumental in the team's recent wins. Outfielders Braden Montgomery (.394) and Jace LaViolette (.400) consistently have delivered big hits to score runs during crucial moments for the Aggies through the first 11 games.

Not to mention their solid arsenal of pitching. Since the hiring of Max Wiener, A&M's pitching has become a strength. Last weekend in Arlington, the Aggies' staff combined a 2.67 combined ERA while recording 31 strikeouts against seven walks.

The No. 7 Aggies will face the No. 24 Longhorns at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday at 6:30 pm as they aim to secure their 12th win of the season.
