Texas A&M Men's Basketball: Should Aggies Be in Top 25?

Texas A&M currently sits alone in second place in the SEC, sandwiched between two top 10 teams

The Texas A&M men's basketball team currently finds itself as the lone squad in second place in a stacked SEC.

One slot above the Aggies is the No. 1 team in the nation, the Alabama Crimson Tide (22-4, 12-1 SEC).

In third place and sitting at No. 10 in the country is the Tennessee Volunteers (20-6, 9-4 SEC).

What is the logic in this?

The Aggies, owners of a 19-7 overall record and an 11-2 mark in conference play, are receiving votes yet still find themselves on the outside looking in.

But how?

Texas A&M has more wins in conference play than No. 10 Tennessee and just one less than No. 1 Alabama.

The Aggies have also won four straight games, and are in the hunt for the SEC regular season championship.

They aim to make it five straight when they face the Missouri Tigers on Saturday at 5 p.m. Central Time on ESPN2.

Yet, they remain unranked.

That may change in the near future, as last week the Aggies were sitting just outside the top-25 and will likely rise with a big win over Arkansas on Wednesday at Reed Arena.

One fact still remains, though: the Aggies have gotten the short end of the stick, both in top-25 rankings and in bracketology predictions thus far.

Perhaps being this overlooked will light a fire under the Aggies and push the team to a deep run in March Madness.

But, regardless of how things transpire, Texas A&M basketball is undoubtedly on the rise.
