Aggies Star Myles Garrett Reels In Another Post Season Award - NFL Tracker
JAN 24 GARRETT NAMED POY There might not be a better player in football than Texas A&M Aggies legend and Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett.
And this week, he continued to get his recognition, being named the Defensive Player of the year by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Garrett has been consistently dominant in his seven seasons with the Browns, now earning All-Pro nods in five of those seven seasons, including winning AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
This season, He has been as good as ever, making 42 tackles with 14 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 30 QB hits and four forced fumbles.
Per Pro Football Focus, Garrett also had a career-high 86 quarterback pressures this season.
JAN 21 EVANS SETS MORE FRANCHISE MARKS Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans has impressed his entire career in Tampa Bay, and is no doubt headed to the Hall of Fame when he hangs his cleats up.
On Saturday, in the Divisional round matchup between Tampa Bay and Detroit, Evans set the Buccaneers franchise mark for career postseason yards from scrimmage, surpassing Leonard Fournette (572).
JAN 5 THREE AGGIES TO PRO BOWL Texas A&M is going to be well-represented this season in the Pro Bowl in Orlando, with three Aggies standouts being named to the game this week.
First and foremost was Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, who continues to make his presence known as one of the best edge rushers in football, tallying 42 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 30 QB hits.
Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans was also named to the NFC team, making it his fifth Pro Bowl selection. This season, Evans has 76 catches for 1233 yards and a career-best 13 touchdowns. He now has gone over 1,000 yards in every one of his 10 NFL seasons.
Rounding out the list of Aggies heading to Orlando is Ravens defensive tackle Justin Madubuike, who heads into the final week of the season with 54 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 13 sacks 32 QB hits, and a forced fumble.
DEC 24 CAMPBELL LEADS LIONS Former Texas A&M Aggies tight end Dan Campbell - the current head coach of the NFL's Detroit Lions - has led the Lions to their first division title since 1993.
With a 30-24 win over division rival Minnesota, Detroit clinched its first-ever NFC North title. The last time the Lions won their division, it was the old NFC Central before the league moved to four divisions in 2002.
The current Detroit quarterback, Jared Goff, wasn't even alive in 1993.
"It's cool. It really is cool," Goff said. "Being able to really reflect on it like we did something that [hadn't been done by] team after team after team for 30 years. This 2023 team did it and broke that streak and we will guarantee a home playoff game. But, yeah, we've got some work to do next week and the following and see where we go."
After coaching stops with the Dolphins and Saints, Campbell took over as the head coach in Detroit in 2021. Campbell played with the Aggies from 1995-1998 and was a third-round. pick of the Giants in the 1999 NFL Draft.
DEC 8 KIRK PLACED ON IR The Jacksonville Jaguars placed former Aggies wideout and current NFL standout Christian Kirk on injured reserve, the team announced on Friday. Kirk suffered a core muscle injury on Monday night against the Bengals and it's expected that the injury will require surgery.
So far this season, Kirk leads the team with 787 yards receiving on 57 catches and has scored three touchdowns in 12 games.
NOV 30 MILLER FACING CHARGES According to reports from WFAA News in Dallas, Texas A&M Aggies alum and NFL star Von Miller is facing multiple domestic violence charges in Dallas.
Miller's girlfriend accused him of assaulting her in their home on Wednesday morning, and a warrant has now been issued for his arrest.
Per WFAA, Miller's warrant is for a charge of assaulting a pregnant person - a third-degree felony in Texas.
Miller's current team, the Buffalo Bills, released a statement on the situation shortly after the reports came to light.
“This morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point.”
NOV 24 CLEMONS EJECTED Former Texas A&M defensive lineman Micheal Clemons was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Miami Dolphins after making contact with an official at the start of the fourth quarter.
During an altercation with offensive tackle Austin Jackson, Clemons made contact with the referee, leading to an automatic disqualification. Jackson was also ejected from the game due to a personal foul penalty.
Clemons last week started an altercation with Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins. Tensions grew between to two players while inside the tunnel at Highmark Stadium postgame. Both players needed to be pulled apart from further ramifications.
Clemons is in his second season with the New York Jets after being drafted in the fourth round.
NOV 13 ACHANE TO RETURN? The Miami Dolphins have opened the 21-day practice window on running back De'Von Achane, who was added to injured reserve last month with a knee injury.
The Dolphins now have three weeks to officially activate Achane to the 53-man roster, or he will miss the remainder of the season.
38 carries for 460 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, averaging a whopping 12.1 yards per carry. He has also added 11 catches for 67 yards and two more scores
OCT 29 JOHNSON INT Former Texas A&M Aggies standout Antonio Johnson got an unexpected birthday present on Sunday, landing his first career NFL interception for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The interception came late in the fourth quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers, sealing the 20-10 win for Jacksonville.
The interception helped move Jacksonville to 6-2 on the season.
OCT 27 EVANS DOES IT AGAIN Tampa Bay wideout Mike Evans and his Buccaneers matched up against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football this week and Evans once again impressed in front of a national television audience.
Running deep down the middle of the field, Evans turned to catch a Baker Mayfield pass at the goal line. He watched the ball ricochet off the defender's helmet and followed it right into his hands for the touchdown.
The Buccaneers (3-4) ultimately lost the game 24-18 to extend their losing streak to three.
OCT 25 GARRETT IN THE NBA Texas A&M star Myles Garrett has reached another level of stardom in the NFL with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
And now, he's taking his talents to the NBA... kinda.
On Wednesday, the Cavaliers announced that Garrett had become a minority owner in the team.
Garrett always joked about making it in the NBA, and now, he at least gets to be involved.
OCT 22 GARRETT BLOCKS FG Texas A&M Aggies legend Myles Garrett is a certified athletic freak.
And on Sunday, he showed why once again, leaping over the Indianapolis Colts offensive line to block a field goal.
Garrett has been. apart of arguably the best defense in the NFL this season, and is responsible for 5.5 sacks, three stuffs, and a forced fumble.
OCT 10 MOND SIGNS The Indianapolis Colts have signed former Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond to the practice squad, following the injury to starter Anthony Richardson.
Mond will be the third-string quarterback behind interim starter Gardner Minshew and former Texas Longhorns QB Sam Ehlinger.
Richardson could miss multiple weeks with a shoulder injury that Colts, which was confirmed by coach Shane Steichen.
"He will miss some time," Steichen said. "How much time? I don't know that right now and that's all I've got on that situation."
Originally a third-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings, Mond has played in one game in his NFL Career, completing 2 of 3 passes for five yards.
OCT 8 ACHANE TD De'Von Achane is quickly becoming a standout player for the Miami Dolphins, as the Aggies running back found the endzone again, as he broke free on a 76-yard rushing touchdown to give his team a 14-0 lead over the New York Giants.
The 76-yard touchdown is the longest run of the season so far for Achane as he continues to establish himself as the new No. 1 running back in Miami.
OCT 1 ACHANE GOES NUTS.... AGAIN Former Texas A&M Aggies star De'Von Achane exploded onto the scene last week, racking up four touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing against the Denver Broncos.
Achane continued that success against the Bills on Sunday, adding two more touchdowns.
Achane finished the day with eight carries for 108 yards and the two scores, as well as five catches for 19 yards.
SEPT 27 MATTHEWS MONEY MOVES The Falcons have just worked and finished the restructuring of Jake Matthews' contract in a way that creates about $7 million in 2023 cap room. That figures to give Atlanta about $10 million now ... so, what's it for?
This is likely a "flip-of-the-switch'' change that doesn't truly alter the amount of money due the standout lineman. And of course, this can be about money available in future years, and not just this one. It would be slightly unconventional for a team to make this move in clear advance of a trade; generally the two transactions would go hand-in-hand.
But this bears watching as the Falcons at 2-1 consider themselves contenders ... and could understandably be looking to upgrade the roster.
SEPT 26 NEW NAME ACHANE Miami Dolphins and Texas A&M Aggies running back De'Von Achane wants a new pronunciation of his name.
He let the Dolphins' public relations staff and members of the media that he wants his last name pronounced A-CHAN instead of A-CHAIN — how some have pronounced it. His first name, he reminded people, is pronounced "De-Von" instead of "Devon."
This is the second time Achane has clarified how he wants his name to be represented. Earlier in the preseason, Achane added an apostrophe after the E and capitalized the V in his first name.
One thing has remained consistent with Achane from his time at Texas A&M to now in the NFL: his dominance with the ball in his hands.
Achane had his coming-out party against the Denver Broncos Sunday in which he ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns while grabbing four passes for 30 yards and another two scores.
The Missouri City, Texas, native was a huge part in Miami's historic win against the Denver Broncos, where it posted the most points in an NFL game since 1966. The Dolphins' 70 points are the third-most in an NFL game in history and the second-most in a regular season game.
In Achane's debut last week against the New England Patriots, he ran for five yards and caught a pass for four after being inactive in Week 1.
It's no secret what Achane is capable of, as he put that on display in Aggieland for three years. He ran for the 16th-most yards and the second-most yards per carry with at least 200 carries in program history.
