Former Aggies DB Donovan Wilson Carted Off at Cowboys Practice

Former Texas A&M Aggies safety Donovan Wilson signed a three-year extension this offseason with the Dallas Cowboys.

Former Texas A&M defensive back Donovan Wilson entered training camp with the Dallas Cowboys hoping to build off a productive year last season. Now, he hopes to play at some point in 2023.

Wilson suffered a calf strain injury during Wednesday's training camp in Oxnard, Calif. He would leave early on a cart after limping to the medical tent and being tended to by trainers.

The timetable for Wilson's return has not been announced as of this time.

A 2019 sixth-round pick, Wilson, 28, emerged as one of Dallas' better defensive players last season. He ended the campaign with a career-best 101 total tackles, five sacks, one interception and nine quarterback hits.

Wilson and Dallas agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth up to $24 million. Considered a "priority signing" by Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, Wilson rejoins a secondary featuring versatile safeties Jayron Kearse and Malik Hooker, along with cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Trevon Diggs.

A native of Shreveport, La., Wilson played in 43 games, including 25 starts, from 2014-18. He recorded 199 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, five sacks and eight interceptions.

Wilson was redshirted in 2017 after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the season opener against UCLA. His best year in College Station was in 2015, when he totaled a career-high five interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 63 total tackles.

Wilson also scored his lone touchdown that season, a 62-yard interception returned to the house, in the Aggies' 35-28 win over South Carolina.
