Watch: Aggies WR Noah Thomas Scores Second TD Against New Mexico

Noah Thomas ties his freshman record in touchdowns before halftime against the Lobos.

COLLEGE STATION -- A new starting quarterback and a go-to receiver that's leathal downfield? Perhaps that's what's in store for Texas A&M in 2023.

Sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman connected with Noah Thomas for a 34-yard touchdown to make 21-7 over New Mexico with six minutes remaining in the second quarter. Thomas and Weigman connected on the opening drive for a 15-yard score to put A&M up 7-0.

Weigman continues to prove why he was the right call as QB1, going 7-of-8 for 119 yards and three scores through three drives. Last season, Weigman started four of the final five games for the Aggies, throwing for 896 yards and eight touchdowns against zero interceptions.

Thomas, a 6-6 sophomore from Pearland, made five appearances with two starts in 2022. He caught five passes for 51 yards and two scores, both coming from Weigman in games against No. 15 Ole Miss and UMass.

Throughout spring practice, Thomas made headlines for his ability to win at the point of attack against D.J. Durkin's defense. He was voted the Offensive MVP by sixth-year coach Jimbo Fisher during the annual Maroon and White Game.

"He's going to be a real weapon," Fisher said following the Maroon and White Game. "I was wanting everybody to have a chance to see him today. It's a shame he didn't get to play."

Senior receiver Ainias Smith said Thomas caught his attention due to his work ethic in practice.

"He just does everything right," Smith said. "It's hard for a human being to go out and force himself to do everything right every single day ... Noah is somebody that goes out and does his job every single time at full speed, no matter how he's feeling. He's going to go out there and put his heart on the line."

The Aggies will begin the second half on offense.
