Aggies Top 25 in ESPN's SP+ Rankings
The Texas A&M Aggies were one of college football's most disappointing teams in 2022, limping to a 5-7 record after months of preseason hype. Now, though, expectations are tempered ahead of next season.
While we still have seven months until the start of season, that doesn't mean we won't see plenty of preseason rankings throughout the offseason. One such ranking is ESPN's SP+, which the Aggies find themselves ranked No. 17.
Bill Connelly, who created SP+, bases the rankings on returning production, recent recruiting and recent history.
Despite their disappointing showing last season the Aggies still return plenty of talent, coming in at seventh in terms of returning production. Losing Devon Achane definitely hurts, but the return of Connor Weigman and Evan Stewart should help stabilize the Aggies offense in 2023.
As for the defense, the Aggies defense has the third best score in the SP+ rankings, behind only Iowa and Georgia who are No. and No. 2 respectively.
The talent is there for the Aggies, even though they did lose their share of talent to the draft and transfer portal. However, with the returning talent and a loaded 2023 recruiting class, it isn't hard to see why they are once again receiving preseason hype.
