The Texas A&M Aggies football program is looking for a new head coach. After five and a half seasons at the helm and three disappointing campaigns, Jimbo Fisher has been fired.

The search begins for his replacement and the list should be long and varied. From NFL coaches to Power 5 coaches to assistants - and even NFL assistants.

Along with other huge names on the list, On3 suggests Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is a dark-horse candidate to land in College Station.

"I have no inside information on this, but I’ve told every AD who has asked me about potential coaches that Quinn would make a spectacular college head coach. His players love him. That’s obvious from what we see in the NFL. He also has a personality that would make him a natural recruiter. He can shoot players straight and charm their parents. And in his brief time as Will Muschamp’s defensive coordinator at Florida, Quinn identified and landed multiple future first-rounders," On3 wrote.

"He probably doesn’t want a college job because he’s close to getting his second crack as an NFL head coach, but if you’re a school capable of taking big swings — and Texas A&M is — then it’s worth an ask."

As alluded to, the hire is a long shot. Quinn has been discussed as the heir-apparent to the Cowboys head coaching job should Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones decide to move on from Mike McCarthy at some point. Dallas is just 5-3 with a couple of head-scratching losses on the 2023 ledger.

It's been rumored that anything less than a conference championship game appearance for the Cowboys will end McCarthy's tenure in Dallas. And if so, Quinn would be the No. 1 candidate according to reports.

Texas A&M needs to look long and hard for Fisher's replacement. Another bad hire could set the program back another 10 years, and another $70 million or more.
