The Texas A&M (4-3, 2-2 SEC) football team is mired in a two-game losing streak after a loss to Alabama at Kyle Field and then losing to the Vols in Knoxville before last week's bye. Next up for the Aggies is the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-5, 1-4 SEC), who come to Kyle Field on Saturday.

Shane Beamer brought with him renewed hope and energy when he arrived at South Carolina in 2021. But an overall record of 17-16 and a conference tally of just 8-13 is no doubt wearing thin.

While positive change doesn't happen overnight, it's now two and a half seasons in. And just like the Aggies, the Gamecocks are dealing with some struggles.

Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler

The Gamecocks got good news when quarterback Spencer Rattler made the decision to return to Columbia. He's a perfect fit to help usher in new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains along with tight end Trey Knox, who transferred to South Carolina from Arkansas when Loggains was hired away.

But the Gamecocks desperately needed a running back as the season started, and the offensive line was a concern as well.

Let's look at three players the Aggies defense might be focused on come Saturday.

QB Spencer Rattler

Rattler is in his second season in Columbia after transferring from Norman, Oklahoma where he began his collegiate career. This season, Rattler has completed 165-of-233 passes for 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. He's completing 70.8 percent of his passes. But behind a lackluster offensive line, he's been sacked a whopping 30 times.

RB Mario Anderson

The senior running back has carried the ball 76 times for 396 yards and earned every bit of the 5.2 yards per carry average behind a bad offensive line. Anderson has scored two touchdowns.

WR Xavier Legette

Fifth-year senior Legette has spent his entire collegiate career at USC. This season, he's caught 38 balls for 736 yards and three touchdowns, after spending the first four seasons in a part-time role at wideout. Legette caught just 42 passes combined in the previous four years.
