Texas A&M Baseball Claims No. 1 Ranking After Sweeping Vanderbilt

After sweeping Vanderbilt, Texas A&M baseball earns its first No. 1 ranking in eight years.

Following their sweep over then-No. 6 Vanderbilt, Texas A&M Baseball has soared to the top spot in the Baseball America poll for the first time since the 2016 season.

With a record of 32-4, Texas A&M dominated the Commodores 36-6 over three games at Blue Bell Park, propelling them from third to first in the rankings. This marks the inaugural time under the leadership of third-year coach Jim Schlossnagle that the Aggies have claimed the coveted No. 1 position in the poll.

In the first game of the series, Ryan Prager pitched a complete game shutout, while Braden Montgomery and Jace LaViolette each hit two home runs, leading the No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team to a dominant 15-0 victory over No. 6 Vanderbilt.

Additionally, the historic series sweep against Vanderbilt secured their first victory against a ranked opponent since 2016. The achievement was celebrated by a notable turnout, with 22,489 fans packing Blue Bell Park over the weekend, marking the second-largest attendance in program history.

Schlossnagle had previously guided the team to their highest finish in program history in 2022, reaching the final four of the College World Series.

Texas A&M claims the No. 1 spot in the D1Baseball Top 25 rankings, ending Arkansas’ five-week reign at the top. The Aggies secured their position after sweeping former No. 6 Vanderbilt, elevating their SEC record to 11-4, just one game behind first-place Arkansas. Coincidentally, Alabama, the team that handed Arkansas its first series loss of the season, is next on A&M's conference schedule.

But first A&M is set to face Air Force at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before heading to Tuscaloosa for a three-game series against No. 12 Alabama starting Thursday night.
