Texas A&M offensive lineman Kenyon Green was drafted by the Houston Texans at No. 15 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft and is expected to be an anchor along their offensive line protecting new quarterback C.J. Stroud for years to come. But now, that plan is put on hold.

As the Texans announced their initial 53-man roster after Tuesday's 3 p.m. CT cutdown deadline, Green was not included. Houston instead placed him on injured reserve, so he will have to miss the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury. Green injured his shoulder in the Texans' final exhibition tilt on Sunday night.

Green started in 14 of the 15 games he played in last season, and experienced a huge learning curve between his days with the Texas A&M Aggies. In 525 pass-block snaps last season, Green allowed 47 pressures, 31 hurries, 12 hits on the quarterback and five sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. In three separate games, Green was given grades of 3.7, 4.6 and 6.8 in pass protection.

The Texans traded for Pittsburgh Steelers center Kendrick Green Tuesday. The move has not been finalized just yet, but, as of now, Houston sent Pittsburgh its 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for Kendrick Green.

While playing for the Texas A&M Aggies, Green was twice named a Consensus All-American in 2020 and 2021, was named first-team All-SEC in 2021, and Second-team All-SEC in 2020.

In 2022, Green decided to forgo his final year of eligibility with the Aggies to enter the NFL Draft. He was the first guard chosen and the fourth offensive lineman behind NC State's Ikem Ekwonu at No. 6, Alabama's Evan Neal at No. 7, and Mississippi State's Charales Cross at No. 9.
