The Texas A&M Aggies' linebacking corps is led by Chris Russell Jr. and Edgerrin Cooper, but what about depth at the position.

Martrell Harris Jr. stepped in during his freshman season and recorded seven tackles with two sacks in 12 games, but now the room is welcoming class of 2023 linebacker Taurean York, who head coach Jimbo Fisher said is mature beyond his years.

"I'll tell him he's 18 going on 30," Fisher said. "I say that from a standpoint of how he learns, how he acts, how he handles things, deals with things, makes calls, has a great understanding of the game of football and handles the maturity parts. He's a very intelligent guy and a very well-rounded guy and has had a really good camp."

At Temple High School in Texas, York recorded 435 tackles, 47 for loss with 15 sacks while forcing 11 fumbles.

York recorded eight tackles in Texas A&M's spring game April 15.

"He had a great spring game," Russell said. "He came in ready. That's usually what you want to see out of a freshman to come in ready."

At 6-0, 217 pounds, York has become a leader on the field for the Aggies' defense.

"A guy as a freshman can go out there and make calls for you as a linebacker and get guys in the right position and do things and orchestrate things," Fisher said. "That doesn't always happen is it is a true freshman."
