On Tuesday, it was reported that former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett had passed away at the age of 35 due to an accidental drowning as he and his family vacationed near Destin, Florida.

Mallet was drafted by the New England Patriots and also spent time with the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens in the NFL. But the majority of his football success was in college, where former Razorbacks head coach and current A&M offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino worked closely with Mallett.

Since his death was confirmed on Tuesday, Mallett's former teammates and coaches offered heartfelt and emotional goodbyes to the former Razorback, Patriot, Texan and Raven.

Petrino was no exception, offering the following:

“I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of one of the greatest competitors I’ve had the privilege of coaching. Not only was Ryan a great leader and teammate on the field, he was a thoughtful and generous person off the field as well.

Personally, I know how much he loved being a hog. I along with thousands of others will always remember 4th and 3 in Little Rock against LSU when he made the perfect pass to Joe to seal the win!

My heart goes out to his family and to all of Hog Nation tonight. Gone but never forgotten. May you rest in peace buddy. Love you!”

The team of Petrino and Mallett helped put Arkansas on the SEC and college football map with success on the field. And their relationship remained close afterward.
