Takeo Spikes 'Still A Believer' In Weigman, Aggies

The Texas A&M Aggies have most likely put their disastrous 2022 season and are right back in contention with quarterback Conner Weigman under center.

So you're telling me there's a chance? Talking season has come and gone in the Southeastern Conference as SEC Media Days wrapped up Thursday, and SEC Network analyst and former Auburn linebacker Takeo Spikes has high hopes for the Texas A&M Aggies in the West.

"I'm still a believer," Spikes said on SEC Now Monday. "I believe in [Conner Weigman]. I really do believe in him. You look at what he did over the last four games: eight touchdowns, no interceptions, did not turn the football over."

The quarterback position breathes life into a team, and, as simple as it may sound, better play under center leads to better results on the scoreboard. In Weigman's final four starts of the season, he notched two of Texas A&M's five wins against UMass and then-No. 6 LSU. His two losses to then-No. 15 Ole Miss and Auburn on the road were by a combined six points.

All signs are pointing to this being Weigman's team, though he hasn't officially been named the starting quarterback over Max Johnson. If Weigman can replicate his high-level play he exhibited towards the end of the 2022 campaign - with the expected talented roster Texas A&M boasts - the Aggies could throw a wrench in the SEC and College Football Playoff standings with an upset or two.
