Jalin Hyatt Impact in New York

The New York Giants selected Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Jalin Hyatt in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has the ability to be an instant threat in an offense looking to spark itself.

In the third round and with the No. 73 pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Giants picked Jalin Hyatt. He became the third Tennessee Vol selected, following Darnell Wright (10th overall) and Hendon Hooker (68th overall).

Hyatt was the only receiver selected in the draft by New York, and just one of two offensive players picked. The other two they picked were Eric Gray, an Oklahoma running back who used to be a Volunteer, and John Michael Schmitz, a center out of Minnesota.

Hyatt offers lots of speed and good ball-tracking for the Giants' receiver room. There also is a lot of unproven potential in the locker room at that position. According to ESPN, the two projected starters for New York are Parris Campbell and Isaiah Hodgins. Both of them had under 700 yards receiving and less than five receiving touchdowns in 2022.

Hyatt had 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Vols in his final year. On top of that, he finished the season with an 18.9-yard average. He can be one of the top playmakers with his explosive speed and good route work. The pick was also considered a pretty big steal for the Giants since Hyatt was sometimes projected as a second-round and even a first-round selection.

Daniel Jones has really been limited on what kinds of targets he has to throw, too, so far in his 4-year career. Hyatt provides him with a promising-looking deep target. It will be interesting to see how the Giants move forward with Hyatt now in their offense.
