Kennedy Chandler Impressing In NBA Summer League

Plenty of former Tennessee Volunteers are currently in the NBA's Summer League. One standout is Kennedy Chandler, who has been impressive so far.

Kennedy Chandler has been incredible thus far in the summer league for the Brooklyn Nets. The former Tennessee Vol guard is preparing for year two in the NBA and is with a new team. Chandler landed on the Nets after being released from the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He averaged around 8 minutes a game in his rookie season.

Now with Brooklyn, the Tennessee basketball alum has hit his stride. On Sunday, he helped lead Brooklyn to a dominant 98-80 victory over the New York Knicks. Chandler finished with 11 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. He led the Nets in assists that game. He also went a solid 5-6 from the free-throw line. This was not the only game Chandler exploded in. During Brooklyn's first summer league matchup in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, he finished with 16 points. He also had another healthy amount of rebounds in that game, with five. The problem and alleged reason for the release of Chandler by Memphis last season was inconsistency with his jumper and scoring. He shot just over 40% from the field and a disappointing 13% from three-point range during the 2022-23 season. Granted, this was on limited minutes.

These percentages are similar to what he is doing in the summer league. But he is becoming more fluid on offense and getting more confidence with the ball in his hands. A change of scenery to a new team is all he needs. This is only two summer league games to dissect. However, it is promising to see the former Tennessee Volunteer scoring in double figures in both games thus far. He has also played plenty of minutes in each game. This shows that his new team has faith in him to revitalize his game during the summer league.
