Andy Katz Puts Vols in Early Bracket Prediction and Power Rankings

On Friday, college basketball expert Andy Katz put the Tennessee Volunteers in his early bracket and power rankings for next season.

Andy Katz, a well-known college basketball analyst, made his early bracket ahead of the 2023-24 college basketball season. The bracket included the Tennessee Volunteers among six other SEC schools.

Among the Volunteers, the other schools in his bracket are Mississippi State, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Auburn. According to Katz, Tennessee is currently a six-seed and is in the south region, with Kansas as the one-seed. He also has the Vols facing off against the Virginia Cavaliers, the region's eleventh seed, in the first round. The other six seeds, according to Katz, are Northwestern, Maryland, and Texas A&M. Along with the bracket prediction, he revealed his Power 36—a power ranking of his top 36 teams in college hoops. The list included the Tennessee Volunteers at 21st on the list. They were ranked as the third-highest SEC team behind Arkansas (14th) and Kentucky (18th).

Katz had given high praises to a Tennessee team that is returning a lot of older experienced players and younger, talented players. This is similar to what plenty of other analysts on other networks are saying. For example, Jeff Borzello, a staff writer for ESPN, put the Volunteers into his updated way-too-early top 25. He put them 5th in the country and is high on the squad head coach Rick Barnes will be putting on the floor next season. It gives the Volunteer fans tons of confidence to see that analysts around the sports reporting world are this high on their team.
