Many in the media have lofty expectations for Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III, but none may be higher than that of "That SEC Podcast." The show is the No. 1 podcast for SEC content, and they recently gave out "hot takes" for each SEC program ahead of the 2023 season. They certainly didn't set the bar low for Milton, as "Cousin Shane" predicted that Milton would break the SEC record for passing yards in a season.

The current record-holder is LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw for 5,671 passing yards in 2019, averaging out to 378 passing yards per game. In 2019, LSU went undefeated, played in 15 games, won the national championship, and Burrow won the Heisman Trophy. He became the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals and has since compiled a decorated career in just three seasons of professional football. Now, Burrow and Milton do have similarities. Both started their careers in the Big Ten, ironically enough, at Ohio State and Michigan, two arch-rivals. They transferred after not seeing the field and had disappointing first stints as the starter at their new destination. Burrow threw just 16 touchdowns in 13 starts for the Tigers in 2018, while Milton was quickly benched in 2021 in favor of backup quarterback Hendon Hooker.

While the SEC passing mark might be lofty, the point is that the two have been in similar situations, and history tells us that Milton should succeed this season. Some think that he could become a first-round NFL Draft pick with a strong season with his physical intangibles; with even a strong, not historic, season under center, that's very achievable for Milton.
